Carmen Simmonds - Glass Caster

Carmen started studying again in 1999, after starting her family. She gained a Bachelor of Fine Arts with distinction in Glass and has not looked back since. Her glass sculpture is very unusual, inspired by women's dress, with a focus on fabric and design history. Her pieces are moulded from actual dresses and you can even see the detailed texture of the fabric in the final work! Carmen's glasswork is widely exhibited and sort after by collectors within New Zealand as well as Australia and the US.
